It was a crazy week in First Grade but we made it wonderful! The First Graders started the second week of Advent leading the school in prayer at the Monday morning prayer service. Our Advent focus of hope this last week helped us prepare our hearts for Christmas. The students created angels with their footprints and handprints. They are displayed in the classroom if you haven’t had a chance to check them out. As a part of our morning prayer time, the First Graders have been singing Christmas songs from the songbooks we created this week. This group loves to sing. They sound like angels! The students have listened to The Nativity Story many times this week from different points of view. Ask your First Grader to tell you the story of Jesus’ birth. On Friday afternoon, Deacon Anthony stopped by the classroom to talk with the First Graders about Advent and even sang The First Noel with them!DSCN3371DSCN3378DSCN3391DSCN3387DSCN3394DSCN3397DSCN3398DSCN3429DSCN3426DSCN3420DSCN3466

In science, the First Graders continued to learn about the ways we measure weather and why it might be important. We collected rain water for 24 hours and found we collected 490 ml (about 2 cups). The students discussed why it might be important to know how much rain falls. Finally, the First Graders created wind socks to see what direction the wind is blowing. We haven’t had a chance to get out and test the wind socks…waiting for a break in the rain! Each table group named their group using weather words we brainstormed. They worked together to compromise and decide on a name. Next week, the Weather Tracking book is due. We will be working with Mrs. Anderson to record our Weather report videos. Please have your First Grader practice where to find his/her US city on a map. DSCN3418DSCN3415DSCN3416DSCN3462
